Computer Tip: Don't be an Uninformed Computer User
- Take the time it takes and learn some basic information on your operating system and your applications - use Help and Support, get a book from the library, join this computer club, take some free online courses. Try to find out what you want to do and how to do it before you turn your computer on and always backup your personal data on a CD, a flash drive or use an External Hard Drive. Go to All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and click Backup and follow back up instructions.
Computer Tip: Cell phones have become almost a necessary part of our lives. They are not just for talking anymore. If you are in a car accident or lost, a cell phone can be a lifeline to help. In cases of power outages or severe weather, a cell phone is your only communication with the outside world. Suppose you go for a walk and realize you lack the energy to walk back or feel sick. With a cell phone you can call someone to come and pick you up. It reduces the strees by letting you know that you can call for help at anytime and anywhere. They enhance the quality of your life by reducing stress. You can sleep better with a cell phone near your bed in case of emergencies. It can be a simple phone or a one of the newest phones that offer voice, video, data, camera, weather, email, GPS, internet, calendar, contacts, music, etc. Bigger, backlit buttons. Computer Tip: Senior fraud is on the rise. You can use the following tips for Cons and Fraud:
Don’t fall for anything that sounds too good to be true.
Never give out any credit card, social security, or bank account number to anyone over the phone or on the internet unless you know the person or organization with whom you are dealing.
Don’t let anyone rush you into signing anything until you, or someone you trust, have reviewed it.
Be cautious of contractors that solicit business door to door.
If you are suspicious, check it out with the police.
